Orris’ Testimony

“I went from living a life of violence to submitting my life to Jesus. “

My name is Orris and this is my story.

I was raised by a single mother of four kids in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up I didn’t really take church seriously. I said the sinner's prayer and moved on with my life.

As a preteen I started experimenting with drugs as I got involved in the street life. I started with weed which led to pills then to cough syrup with codeine. That addiction began at 11 and didn’t end until I was 34.
At 21 I had a daughter with a woman I wasn’t married to - my daughter is now thirteen years old. I kept going back to drugs and living this life of sin. My girlfriend and I got pregnant again six years later, and I had another daughter who is now seven years old.

My addiction got worse and worse, I stopped coming home, and as much as I wanted to - I couldn't change. I had another child, a son, who is now six years old. I wanted to be better for my kids, but even the birth of my son didn’t change me. I was back in the same old things I had always been in, and my girlfriend finally had enough of it. She took my kids and left me in February of 2021. During the next year I fell even deeper into drugs.

August 2022 came around and I decided to try and get help. I reached out to my family in Alabama, and admitted everything I was involved in. I told my cousin that I desperately needed to get away from Detroit, and he agreed to help me - under one condition. I would go to a faith based rehab called Freedom House. I agreed.

I flew to Alabama, and my family along with Pastor Jason Duren called Tony Wood, the founder of Freedom House. Tony said that as soon as I was ready he had a spot open for me.

On August 3rd, 2022, I went to Freedom House.

I had never been out of Michigan, so I was very nervous going to a rehab in south Alabama. As Tony went over the rules of Freedom House and the mission behind it, I thought it was a bit overboard. But I knew I needed change, so I was up for it.

And what a life changing experience it was. Over the last six months, I got to experience how much the Lord can change a man’s outlook on life, free him from drug addiction and smoking cigarettes, and deliver him from generational curses. I went from living a life of violence to submitting my life to Jesus.

I now know the truth and have been set free from a life of bondage and destruction. I developed a relationship with the Lord, and I have found myself more joyful than ever before. I can’t thank Freedom House enough for what it has done for me. Freedom House told me the truth about what it means to walk daily as a christian, live sober with Jesus, and that simple obedience changes history.

Don’t let these generational curses pass down to your kids and family, it starts with YOU!
